JAIPUR: In a crunch game that offered valuable points to both sides, Punjab Kings made a couple of changes: Kyle Jamieson came in for Lockie Ferguson, while Azmatullah Omarzai was left out. Prabhsimran Singh was expected to be used as the Impact Player.

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first. Ryan Rickelton looked intent on making a mark early, striking three boundaries in the initial phase of the innings. However, his promising start ended on 27, when he attempted to go down the ground to a good length delivery but found Iyer at mid-on.

Mumbai reached their team fifty in 5.2 overs as Suryakumar Yadav walked in at No 3.

An extra layer of grass on the Jaipur pitch provided assistance to the bowlers, and Vijaykumar Vyshak made the most of it, conceding just three runs in his first over after the powerplay.

Rohit Sharma’s lean patch continued. Attempting to loft a tossed-up delivery over long-on, he was brilliantly caught by Nehal Wadhera, who dived forward to complete the dismissal.

Despite the runs not coming freely, Suryakumar continued his consistent run, becoming the first batter in T20 history to score 25 or more runs in 14 consecutive innings.

At the other end, Tilak Varma was dismissed for just one, undone by tight bowling from Vyshak, who then struck again in his next over to remove Will Jacks for 17. Jacks advanced down the pitch and attempted to slash a cutter but was caught at long-on by Marco Jansen, leaving Mumbai on 123 for 4 in the 14th over.

Suryakumar and Hardik Pandya added 44 runs for the fifth wicket before the stand was broken by Jansen. A cutter angled away found the edge of Pandya’s bat, and Josh Inglis completed the catch, with Mumbai on 154 at the end of the 17th over.

Suryakumar stepped up when it mattered most, bringing up his half-century off 34 balls and guiding Mumbai to a competitive total of 184 for 7 in their 20 overs.

Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 184/7 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 57) vs Punjab Kings
