DoTE to coach 1,400 tech students crack entrance exams, job-oriented tests
The trainings will cover GATE, IES, CAT, GMAT, GRE, IELTS, and TOEFL for 1,400 BE and BTech students studying in 11 government engineering colleges across the State from this year

CHENNAI: The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) will tie up with private institutions to provide intensive coaching for various entrance exams and tests meant for job opportunities.
The trainings will cover GATE, IES, CAT, GMAT, GRE, IELTS, and TOEFL for 1,400 BE and BTech students studying in 11 government engineering colleges across the State from this year.
These are various standardised tests used for different purposes, mainly related to higher education and employment. Accordingly, youngsters would get a boost to face Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), an entrance exam for engineering students seeking admission to postgraduate programmes at IITs, IISc, and other prestigious institutions, IES, which UPSC conducts for recruitment to various engineering positions in the central government and Common Admission Test (CAT), an entrance exam for MBA programs at IIMs.
Similarly, aspirants will receive help to prepare for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), an entrance exam for MBA programmes at top business schools worldwide, especially outside India, and the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), a standardised test used for graduate school admissions in various fields (not just business).
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) widely accepted by universities and institutions, particularly in the UK and Australia and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), an entrance exam to test to assess English language proficiency, widely accepted by universities and institutions, especially in the US will be covered under the coaching scheme.
"We have already floated a tender to invite proposals from eligible private institutions to provide coaching for the competitive exams in 11 government engineering colleges," a senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education said.
According to the official the engineering colleges include 230 students at Government College of Technology (GCT) in Coimbatore, 150 students from Government College of Engineering (GCE) in Salem, 135 students from Alagappa Chettiar Government College of Engineering & Technology (ACGCET) in Karaikudi, 135 students from Tirunelveli GCE, 135 aspirants from Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology (TPGIT) in Vellore, 80 from Bargur GCE, 100 from Bodi GCE, 100 from Thanjavur GCE, 100 from Dharmapuri GCE, 100 from Trichy GCE and 135 from Erode GCE will get benefited.
"The Principal of the respective government engineering college will identify and allocate the number of students to each training module," he said, adding that "the appointed training agency will distribute course material, provide intense training and provide the student's performance to the authorities concerned."
