    CHENNAI: The police arrested a 23-year-old youth on Thursday for murdering his father and stepmother and dumping their chopped bodies wrapped in a sack in different water bodies in Salem.

    The police identified the deceased as Palanisamy (47) of Koneripatti and Jayalakshmi. According to the police, the accused Akash (23), assaulted his father Palanisamy and stepmother Jayalakshmi to death over a family dispute.

    The police said that Akash was born to Palanisamy and his first wife, Jayanthi. Palanisamy had then married Jayalakshmi and had a daughter. The police said Akash had a dispute with his father and stepmother over some family issues.

    It is to be noted that Akash cooked up a drama that Palanisamy and Jayanthi had gone missing since the night of August 16. Only after the relatives pressured him to reveal their whereabouts, Akash spill the truth.

    He claimed to have killed both father and stepmother and chopped their hands, legs, and head using a knife. He then stuffed their body parts in three sacks and dumped one sack in Ekapuram Lake and two others in Thalaiyur Lake, which now remains dry.

    On receiving information, the Magudanchavady police nabbed Akash and commenced inquiries. Meanwhile, police retrieved the severed body parts in two sacks from the dried lake bed, while a search is on to trace out the third sack in Ekapuram Lake.

    The almost decomposed bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination at Salem Government Hospital. Further inquiries are on.
