The batswoman was trying to evade a bouncer from Shamilia Connell, when the ball hit her thumb before deflecting onto her neck during Pakistan’s game against West Indies on Wednesday.

Javeria collapsed and was stretchered off and rushed to a nearby hospital. After initial first aid, the opener was kept under observation for a day in a city hospital. She would be discharged later on Thursday and will join the squad in Delhi later in the night.

According to a team official, Javeria went into a state of shock after receiving a blow. “She was semi-conscious but she was in a state of shock and couldn’t talk to us. She was immediately taken to a hospital and fortunately her jaw is fine however her thumb took the brunt of the blow,” the official said adding that a decision on a replacement would be taken later. In all likelihood, the opener might miss Pakistan’s crucial encounter against India on Saturday.

Pakistan captain Sana Mir, put up a brave face after the match on Wednesday and said: “This is the first time our team has experienced something like this. It is very difficult to deal with such situations as a team-mate, but I am proud of the girls for the way they kept cool and fought on right till the end."
