    Grand Slam entered the Elite semi-final qualifiers of the TNCA First Division League after an emphatic nine-wicket win over Young Stars here on Monday.

    Off-spinner B Arun was instrumental in the win as he took four for 63 in the second innings to finish with a match haul of 10 for 153. NS Harish complemented him well by chipping in with four wickets of his own. Grand Slam needed an outright win to qualify for semi-finals and it packed a punch when it mattered the most. Young Stars was bowled out for 156 in its second innings thereby setting Grand Slam a modest target of 59. It reached the target with nine wickets to spare and in 11.2 overs. 

    Vijay CC and Globe Trotters shared three points apiece to advance to the last four stage along with India Pistons and Grand Slam. Vijay CC declared its innings at 617 for seven with triple centurion Himmat Singh finally getting out for 322. In reply, Globe Trotters struggled to reach 187 for eight with opener C Hari Nishaanth scoring 54 (173b, 6x4). Vijay’s offspinner Malolan Rangarajan took three for 51. As first innings was not completed, both the teams received three points each.

    Meanwhile, the Plate final for SR Jagannathan Trophy will be played between Jolly Rovers CC and Alwarpet CC. Alwarpet and CromBest finished on 22 points, but Alwarpet qualified on a better run quotient.

    Magesh guides Wheels India to easy win 

    D Magesh scored 76 runs to help Wheels India register a comfortable 104-run win over Engine Factory (Avadi) in the Thiruvallur DCA Trohpy here. Replying to Wheels’ 190, Engine Factory feel for a meagre total of 86 runs, with R Prasanth and M Sakthivel taking four and three wickets respectively.
